In interior design, there's always a lot of attention on trends — what's cool, what's new, and what's next in colors, furniture, finishes, and more. While designing and furnishing a home is an exciting process, it can also feel overwhelming when you're deciding whether to embrace today's trends or invest in timeless design. Trends reflect what's popular right now, while timeless design focuses on elements that will remain beautiful, functional, and relevant for years to come.

Stone

When it comes to selecting materials for countertops, backsplashes, and flooring, we can’t lie, we’re fans of natural stone. That said, high quality man-made stone like quartz has a time and place.

Natural stone options like marble or quartzite bring a one-of-a-kind, timeless appeal that manufactured alternatives simply can’t replicate.

Choosing the right stone for the right application is just as important. While we often steer clients away from marble for busy kitchen countertops because of its porous nature and etching, quartzite is an excellent alternative. It's incredibly durable, naturally heat resistant, and well-suited for everyday family life.

We love incorporating quartzite into kitchens, like the countertops in our White Christmas project. Marble, on the other hand, shines in bathrooms, where it experiences less wear and creates an elevated, spa-like feel — as seen in our Dancing on Providence primary shower. In a more modern space like our Finding Forever on Abingdon primary bath, quartz was the perfect aesthetic fit for the extra tall mitered countertops and wall mounted faucets.

Custom Millwork

Custom millwork is one of those design elements that instantly elevates a home. Whether it's picture frame molding, as seen in our Made in Montibello family room, grid paneling in our Life on Longview foyer, a custom built-in soaking tub like the one in our Firethorne primary bathroom, or exposed wood ceiling beams in the Life on Longview dining room, these architectural details add character and craftsmanship that will be admired forever.

Quality Upholstery

With countless upholstery options to choose from, it's easy to assume they're all created equal, but that's far from the truth. Investing in a well-crafted, high-quality sofa, sectional, chair and/or ottoman is one of the best decisions you can make for your home. In our design and furnishing projects, we often incorporate North Carolina-made furniture crafted with quality materials and upholstered in high-performance fabrics designed to withstand the wear and tear of everyday family life. As seen in our Dansing On Providence, Bulaful Home and Made In Montibello living spaces, these sofas, sectionals, and ottomans are as beautiful as they are durable!

The true value of investing in a high-quality upholstery? Over time, the fabric can be refreshed or reupholstered while the well-built frame remains — allowing the piece to be enjoyed, loved, and passed down for generations.

Custom Cabinetry

Custom cabinetry in kitchens and bathrooms is an investment worth making, every time. Unlike standard cabinetry, which is designed to fit a wide range of homes, custom cabinetry is created specifically for your space, allowing every detail to be thoughtfully considered. A great example is the kitchen in our Finding Forever on Abingdon project. Here we designed two-tone cabinetry, a custom plastered range hood, and cabinet paneled appliances.

Beyond creating a space that looks exactly the way you envision it, custom cabinetry is designed to support the way you live every day. It maximizes every inch of available space while incorporating storage solutions that keep countertops clutter-free and your home beautifully organized.

Need deep drawers to neatly store pots and pans? Done. A pull-out organizer dedicated to cutting boards? Easy. A peg drawer to keep bowls and dishes securely in place? Absolutely. With custom cabinetry, every cabinet, drawer, and divider has a purpose.

Original Artwork & Family Photos

Original artwork and family photos are one of the easiest ways to personalize your home because they're unique to each homeowner. Unlike passing trends, these meaningful pieces never go out of style and often become even more treasured over time. Whether you choose a statement piece of artwork for a room or create a gallery wall filled with family photos, these personal touches make your home feel distinctly yours. We incorporated both in our Bulaful Home project and I love admiring them every day.
