Interiors Inspired By Our Favorite Season, Summer
Ahhhh, can you hear it? The sweet sounds of summer - birds chirping, lawn mowers humming, distant laughs of kids splashing in a pool - it is my favorite soundtrack! If you have been following us for awhile you know that summer is collectively our favorite season at Delphinium Design. We love the long days, the bright colors and the yummy BBQs (a crisp rosé on a back patio, yes, please!).
We find a lot of inspiration for our Charlotte design projects from the summer season. Whether it’s a brilliant blue that calls to mind a trip to the beach, a vibrant pink that is reminiscent of a summer sunset on the lake or a crisp white that feels just right for a cute summer dress, our designs are a true reflection our most beloved season.
To honor all that is best about this time of year, we thought it would be fun to round up some of our favorite interiors that do just that. Think natural light streaming in, windows thrown open, and a plethora of color that make the spaces come to life. Use these spaces as inspiration for your next design project, or simply enjoy while you soak in your own summertime bliss!
Spaces Where We Unwind
Light, bright and beautifully blue! When it comes to a summer design palette nothing beats this timeless combination - light colored pieces that brighten up spaces, complete with a touch of “something blue.” Whether a living room or home office, such as in our Dansing on Providence project, or a foyer or primary bedroom, as seen in our Life On Longview project, we often lean into this coastal-inspired aesthetic to create spaces that feel fresh and inviting. From a statement sofa, and a charming nightstand to window treatments and subtle decorative accents, the possibilities are endless. Designer tip: warm wood accents add the perfect balance to cool blue tones, bringing warmth into the space.
Spaces Where We Gather
Much like our living and work spaces, our most summer-inspired kitchens are the ones that are light, bright and neutral with subtle accents of color. Neutral colored cabinetry and countertops provide the perfect foundation for infusing color and we love to do so in various ways. In our Asheford Greene project, the green dining chairs complement the white oak table and cabinetry. In our White Christmas kitchen, a soft green Roman shade provides the perfect pop of color in a warm, neutral space. For a simple yet impactful touch, we showcased our clients beautiful ginger jar collection in our Firethorne Kitchen project, which you could easily do as well.
Spaces Where We Refresh
Is there anything better than coming home from a long day spent at the beach or the pool and taking a refreshing shower? We don’t think so. And it’s no secret — a beautifully designed bathroom makes this summer ritual much more enjoyable! :) While Charlotte may not be on the coast, we do incorporate coastal elements into our design projects, especially in bathrooms and do so by thoughtfully selecting color palettes, materials and decorative accessories.
In our Beaver Dam primary bathroom, we found the perfect balance when pairing the white oak vanity with soft gray and white marble tile. In our Hurtt So Good project, the daughter’s bathroom features a rich navy vanity paired with soft pink walls and gold hardware - a playful, yet sophisticated summer palette. In the primary bathroom of the same project, we combined a white shiplap backsplash with a sleek white vanity, bold black mirrors and brass light fixtures for a timeless coastal look. While the three spaces are different, they all capture the relaxed and effortless feeling of summer.
Spaces Where We Start Our Day
What better way to start your day than with a cup of coffee and a little sunshine? When designing sunrooms, our goal is to seamlessly blend the outdoors with the indoors. In our Beaver Dam, Asheford Green and Life on Longview projects, we designed the rooms with elements inspired by the essence of summer- greenery, woven elements, stripes, colorful beach reads, muted rugs, and of course, pops of blue.
