How We Decorate for the Holidays

‘Tis the season for sparkle! We love everything about this time of year - the repeat play of “All I Want For Christmas is You”, the cheesy Hallmark movies, plates of Christmas cookies and gatherings with family and friends. However, nothing compares to our love of the decorations. There’s something about a little pine and the glow of Christmas lights that makes our hearts grow three sizes. That shouldn’t come as a surprise being that we love to style and decorate homes every day. ;)

As you prepare to deck the halls this year, we wanted to share a few simple ways we like to add some merry into our homes. Feel free to use our ideas as an inspiration for your own holiday home!

Hall Out The Holly

The most simple way to add some holiday cheer? Hall out the holly and add greenery to all spaces - kitchen included! Whether it’s real pine or a faux garland, a little greenery goes a long way. Feel free to add lights for a little extra shimmer. We don’t know about you, but we have our lights on all day and night for ambience. We particularly love hanging garland across fireplace mantels, along foyer tables and down staircase railings. Wreaths also make for great indoor decor and can be hung wherever you please. You’ll find us placing wreaths on kitchen hoods and over mirrors. As you know if you read the blog often, we love layering, and a wreath over a mirror is a beautiful way to do just that!

Packages Tied Up With Strings

Or if you are us, bows - and lots of them! One of our favorite ways to decorate is to display beautifully wrapped presents under the Christmas tree. Pick your favorite holiday color scheme and wrap the gifts to coordinate. The best part is that it doesn’t need to be fancy, a simple bow goes a long way. Insider tip - use recycled shopping bags for a pretty and earth conscious way to wrap your presents. If you want to go a step further, consider decorating your tree with coordinating colors and ribbons that match!

Tidings of Tablescapes

The dining room table isn’t just for Santa’s milk and cookies! Whether you are hosting a big holiday dinner or having a small intimate gathering, it’s the perfect time of year to decorate your table, too. Set the space with simple dinnerware but sprinkle a bit of holiday cheer by once again adding a beautiful garland, some sprigs of pine, which can even be from a tree in your backyard and pinecones (“frost” the tips or add glitter for a little extra something!) 1-2-3, and you’ve got the perfect holiday tablescape that’s sure to bring you tidings of joy!

Making Spirits & Rooms Bright

How many holiday songs mention a fireplace? Too many to count…meaning that a fireplace must be a big part of the festivities. Lighting a fire and having it burn is a simple way to make your home bright with holiday spirit. If you are lucky enough to have a home with a fireplace, get it going and a-glow-ing, make yourself a warm cup of hot cocoa and cozy up to watch your favorite Christmas movie! If not, find a friend that has one and invite yourself over to do the same. ;)

Jingle All The Way

We love those J-I-N-G-L-E bells, and also being stress free when we are transitioning our homes for the holidays. Elevate your home this holiday season without redecorating! As much as we love big Christmas trees and large, glowing garlands, we also love small and simple pieces of decor that can be placed within existing displays. Add touches of tiny trinkets to built-ins, bars and shelves to give your home a small sprinkle of jingle. Some of our favorites that we like to incorporate into our own homes are pinecones, berries and small trees. We also love adding holiday inspired florals and a Christmas candle with a Fraser fir scent to complete the space.
